The Sports Medicine Field Team
The Sports Medicine Field Team consists of second and third year students who are committed to serving their fellow students. After completing their first year they can achieve their field uniform and field credentials to work under the supervision of a coach. These allow them to be posted to and join a sports team, band, theatre production, or choir performance to provide medical support under the direct supervision of the coach. They are rostered on the team like any other athlete or performer; except they don’t throw the ball or leap across the stage. Instead, they help the coach to prevent, respond to, and assess health conditions in their peers.

Blue Shirts are the students on the field team that wear the school’s medical patch and are out there, doing medicine on a daily basis as clinical education. They conduct assessments, perform interventions, and work the athletes through preventative drills all under the supervision of a coach.
These students are leaders on campus, in their lives, and on the field. Always aware of the public trust they hold themselves to the highest level of integrity, service, excellence, and honor befitting professionals twice their age.

Blue Shirts drill constantly on emergency procedures and all have Red Cross Basic Life Support cards. Their two years of intense, daily, internships prepare them for university study for MD, PA-C, RN, or ATC, giving them a huge advantage. Several students also transition to emergency medical services and are easily able to attain their EMT-B or AEMT given their skills.
